Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to the Mattacritic. This is Matthew Hemenway. I hope you are doing well. I am doing as well as I can. In this episode of the Mattacritic, I will be reviewing and analyzing The Dark Knight Rises, a DC comic book movie that is currently on Max. You can go to Max and Amazon to watch the movie. I will go over several topics in this episode. This movie will deal with Jim Gordon saying he knew Harvey Dent. At the end of the Dark Knight, both Jim Gordon and Batman decide not to tell the truth about Harvey Dent. The reason was that Joker wanted Gotham City to fall and be like him. He wanted the people of Gotham to be as ugly as he was. The next scene of the movie will have agents of the CIA picking up Dr. Pavel and they end up picking up mercenaries that were working for Bane. Bane is the one who is big and wears a mask. In this movie, they have Bane sound like Darth Vader. He has a deep voice. He sounds menacing. Bane has a plan. Bane planned to get captured, he and his men take Dr. Pavel with them and crash the CIA plane. Bane will remind people of certain people that like to manipulate people. Please go here to watch this clip of the plane crash. He is a psychopath and will take up Ra’s Al Ghoul’s mantle in this movie. I will let you know when Bane talks; he is using talking points that certain people use, later in this episode. Rest of the Review and Rating of the Dark Knight Rises
As was mentioned before, Bane is the main villain of this movie, and Bruce Wayne will be struggling to figure out who he is. The movie will have Mayor Anthony Garcia telling people gathered at Wayne Manor where the Wayne Foundation is hosting the event. He is telling people that Gotham City has seen a record low crime rate in its history. Crime is down after the death of Harvey Dent. Batman has retired and Jim Gordon is wondering if he should tell the truth about Harvey Dent. Jim Gordon decides not to and lets them know that the Dent Act has helped to keep the worst of the worst criminals from being on the streets. It created teeth as the mayor said and he would not let city council repeal the Dent Act since it gave Law Enforcement teeth it needed.
The party will continue, and the congressman tells one of the police officers that the mayor plans to sack him in the spring. Foley wonders why and that Jim Gordon is a hero. The congressman lets Foley know that this is peacetime, and that Jim Gordon is a war hero.
Bruce Wayne will later encounter Selina Kyle in his bedroom and finds out that she broke in his safe. He knew that in that she was wearing his mother’s old pearls that were in the first film of the Dark Knight trilogy. It was the same pearls that his mother wore when she was shot and killed by Joe Chill. Selina Kyle will knock the cane out of Bruce Wayne’s hand and escape with the pearls. Bruce Wayne knows that it was not what she was after. It was his fingerprints that she wanted.
Jim Gordon is on the roof where he would have met Batman. Officer Blake wonders what Jim Gordon is doing up there. He asks Jim Gordon, what happened that night with the Batman and the night that Harvey Dent died. It does not make sense to him after eight years later. Batman disappeared after that. Bruce Wayne will be in the bat cave and will be working on deciphering what happened with Selina Kyle getting his fingerprints on the safe. He told Alfred that the pearls were not what she was after, it was his fingerprints that she wanted. Alfred will say to Bruce Wayne maybe and her should exchange notes. Bruce Wayne tells Alfred, “Are you trying to set me up with a jewel thief.” As Alfred tells Bruce Wayne, “I set you up with a chimpanzee, if it got you back in the world.” Bruce Wayne tells Alfred that there is nothing out there for me as this is how Bruce feels after he lost Rachel Daws due to the events of the Joker. Alfred lets him know that is the problem and lets Bruce Wayne know that you are waiting for things to get bad again. Bruce Wayne is broken from the pain, and it is hard for him to move forward with his life. You can go here to watch the clip.
I can understand how Bruce Wayne feels, and I will use my life as an example. After what happened with my automobile accident, I have put my life on hold. I have been afraid to put myself out there. I am extremely cautious when it comes to things like relationships or anything else. I was told not get close to people. I was very needy, and after that I decided to not allow myself to get hurt and all it did was to isolate myself from people. The pandemic helped it to become easier to do that as well. It is not a terrific way to live life. It has kept me safe from getting hurt as I was telling myself. I was wrong. All I did was hurt myself.
Jim Gordon will later find out about Bane when he was taken to Bane’s layer in the sewer. He finds out about Bane’s plan with his army. He will end up at the hospital. You can go here to watch the clip of Gordon in Sewers.
Officer Blake will later go to Bruce Wayne and let Alfred know that he needs to talk to him. He lets Alfred know that he could come back with a warrant and investigate Bruce Wayne for the death of Harvey Dent. Bruce Wayne will talk to Officer Blake and Officer Blake lets him know that he knows that Bruce is Batman, and that Jim Gordon needs your help, and that Gotham City needs you to fight Bane and his army. He knew that at the time he met him at the boy's home that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Earlier in the movie, he talked to one of the boys about his brother dying in the sewer. The boy asked him about Batman coming back. Officer Blake is not sure if is coming back. Officer Blake lets Bruce know that he still believes in the Batman and does not fully understand why he took the fall for Harvey Dent’s murder. Officer Blake lets Bruce Wayne know about the boy’s home and that it used to be funded by the Wayne foundation and lets Bruce Wayne know that you might want to get a little fresh air. Bruce Wayne asks Alfred why the boy’s home stop receiving funds from the Wayne Foundation. Alfred told him that the funds for the Wayne Foundation are funded by the profits of Wayne Enterprises. There must be some profits for that to happen. Bruce Wayne decides to take one of the cars to a hospital to have one of the doctors look at his knee. He told Alfred have him put an appointment at the hospital of where Jim Gordon is.
The Doctor will look at his knee. The doctor tells him that there is no cartilage in your knee as well as your kidneys and that you have severe brain damage. He recommends that he does not go heliskiing. Bruce Wayne will leave the room he is at and visits Jim Gordon. Jim Gordon tells a masked Bruce Wayne that we were in this together and then you were gone. Bruce Wayne says that the Batman was not needed anymore; we won. Jim Gordon tells him, all we did was drive the evil people underground and that it will rise from the ashes. Bruce Wayne says, what if he does not exist anymore. Bruce Wayne will go to a charity ball where he will meet Miranda Tate; and she recognizes him and wonders why he is at the charity ball. She knows even before he became a recluse; he never really attended charity balls. She wants him to realize that the energy project that they invested in will be a great shot for the world to have clean energy. She wanted to tell him at the gathering of the mayor and police commissioner. Bruce Wayne will encounter Selina Kyle wearing his mother’s pearls. He will take them from her, and she kisses him after he took them back. She will steal his ticket and take his car. Bruce Wayne will have to call Alfred to pick him up from the charity ball. Bruce Wayne will later meet with Lucius Fox and Lucius makes fun of the fact that Bruce decided to finally come out of his Cyro sleep. Bruce lets him know “That you haven’t lost your sense of humor, even though you lost most of his money.” Lucius lets him know that Bruce did that. “If you decided to invest in the clean energy project and only later decide to mothball it, your company is not likely to thrive.” Lucius lets Bruce know that you need to show Miranda Tate the machine. Lucius lets him know that we are keeping John Daggett at bay. You must realize this. Lucius will show Bruce some stuff and shows him the machine that he created called the Bat and points out that it does come in black. Bruce Wayne is training and getting back in shape. Alfred will let him know that Bane was a member of the league of shadows and was kicked out of the league by Ra’s Al Ghoul. This says to anyone that Bane is not someone to be trifled with. Bane will later attack the Gotham Stock Exchange and will use Bruce Wayne’s fingerprints to execute on trades. Batman will later show up to stop the men fleeing from the stock exchange. You can go here to watch that clip of the attack of the stock exchange.
John Daggett will be frustrated as to why Batman had to show up tonight after it had been eight years. Batman will get the tablet and take it to the bat cave after he rescued Cat Woman from Bane’s men after she wanted the program that John Daggett promised her. She lets Batman know that she sold Bruce Wayne’s fingerprints to John Daggett. You can go here to watch the clip of the return of the dark knight.

Batman will get back to the bat cave and he analyzes the tablet and finds out that it had executed on trades at the stock exchange. Bruce Wayne found his fingerprints on the tablet after he used the machine to analyze it. It needs to be taken to Lucius Fox so he can figure out what trades were executed. Alfred will leave because he wants to stop Bruce Wayne from being Batman. He told Bruce that Rachel was going to marry Harvey Dent before she died. You can go here to watch that clip.
Bruce Wayne will meet Lucius Fox after Fox tells Bruce he does not have money and that they need time to prove the fraud. Bruce will get Lucius to meet Miranda Tate at the place where the energy reactor was kept at. The board will get behind her. John Daggett will meet with Bane, and he is frustrated at the turn of the events. Bane lets him know that your money and resources have been useful until now. Bane lets John Daggett know that he is a necessary evil. Bane claims he is Gotham’s reckoning. Bane will get rid of John Daggett after this. Bruce Wayne will meet with Selina Kyle and ask her to set up a meeting with Bane. Bruce Wayne tells her that the program that she seeks does exist. Selina Kyle tells Bruce that she will think about his offer. Bruce Wayne will make love to Miranda Tate and later he will get the Batman suit to go to meet with Bane. Selina Kyle AKA Cat Woman will take Batman to Bane. It will be a trap after Batman beats up most of Bane’s men. Please go here to watch the tunnel fight with Bane’s men.
Batman lets Cat Woman know that you made a serious mistake. Bane claims, not as serious as yours. Batman will fight Bane and Bane shows Batman that he is stronger than he thinks. Batman will end up being beaten badly. Please go here to watch the clip of Batman fighting Bane in the tunnel.
Bane will later take Bruce Wayne to the prison he spent a lot of time. It was the pit that Alfred talked about. Please go here to watch that clip.
Bane will later take the executives of Wayne Enterprises to find the fission reactor. He has Dr. Pavel transform it into an atom bomb.
Bane will attack the football game and have the explosives go off. Bane will kill the mayor after he blows him up. He will claim to Gotham that he and his men come as liberators not conquerors. You can go here to watch that clip.
This movie will progress with Gotham City being under siege by a war lord. Bane will release the prisoners from Black Gate prison and claim that he is freeing Gotham from the corrupt. This is like what Donald Trump does and claims that as well. Please go here to watch that clip.
There will be special forces that attempt to stop him, but they failed. Please go here to watch that clip.
Bruce Wayne after months of healing and retraining his body; will find a way to escape the prison. He does and ends up getting back to Gotham City. Please go here to watch the clip of Bruce Wayne escaping the pit.
Jim Gordon will encounter Foley and tell him the only way this gets solved is inside the city not by the outside world. The bomb will go off regardless of what anyone does. Bruce Wayne will encounter Selina Kyle and lets her that he will give her the program that she seeks. He saw her stop a man from beating up a kid and she beats him up. Bruce Wayne saw that there is more to her than that. You can go here to watch the clip of Jim encouraging Foley and Bruce Wayne encountering Selina Kyle. It will also show the kangaroo court.
There is a scene where Jim Gordon is taken to Dr. Jonathan Crane. There is a kangaroo court where the guilt has been determined, and this is a sentencing hearing. There is no arguing this court or convincing a jury of your guilt or innocence. This is like what authoritarian regimes do. They do it in Russia as they have kangaroo court. Batman will have to save Jim Gordon from forced to have to go on that ice. Batman will later save Detective Blake from getting killed and get the police officers that were trapped in the tunnels. Batman tells Detective Blake to wear a mask and points that the mask is not for you, it is to protect the ones you care about. That line relates to the pandemic as when people resisted to wear a mask, but the mask was not for you but to protect others from the horrible disease that was COVID-19. The movie will progress with the awesome fight scene with Bane and Batman fighting him. The police officers will fight Bane’s men that are part of the league of shadows. Please click here to watch that clip.
As not to be revealed, nothing more will be revealed here. The movie does get to the climax and gets to the conclusion of the Dark Knight trilogy.
I will give you, my rating. I give the Dark Knight rises, a 10 out of 10. The movie does an excellent job of helping the viewer to understand the pain of Bruce Wayne’s pain and how to overcome a war lord. If people are under a war lord or any type of dictator the only way to change that is with inside that area of oppression. People there must decide that they had enough. Bruce Wayne welcomed death at one point, and I understand that. It is easy to want to do that than to keep the struggle of wanting to live life. The movie will have a twist of who the ultimate villain is. Who is the villain actually? If you know the answer, please your answer in the comment section below. Thank you.
