Hello everyone, welcome to the Mattacritic. This is Matthew Hemenway. I hope you are doing well. In this episode of the Mattacritic, I will be giving you my thoughts on the Heroes Convention that took place on June 13, 2026, in Charlotte, NC at the Charlotte Convention Center. The dates for the 3 days were June 12 to June 14, 2026. The first day took place on Jun 12, 2026, from 11am to 7 pm. The second day took place on June 13, 2026, from 10 am to 6 pm. The third day took place on June 14, 2026, from 11 am to 6 pm. The one for next year will be on the dates of June 11, 2027, to June 13, 2027, at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC. I will have pictures of the event and describe what took place. I hope this episode will inspire you to read, watch, and learn.

Rest of my thoughts on the Heroes Convention on June 13, 2026, in Chalotte, NC at the Charlotte Convention Center
As I told you, I will have pictures of the Heroes Convention and a video of the event. I took the light rail up to the Charlotte Convention Center when I went there on Saturday, June 13, 2026, which is the second day of the event. As I told you before, the event for the Heroes Convention took place from June 12 to June 14, 2026. The one for next year will take place from June 11 to June 13, 2027. You can go to https://www.heroesonline.com/heroescon/ and learn more about this event if you want to go next year. I am giving you my assessment and my opinion on this, but this is worth going. I will leave a link to my experience of going last year and I will tell you that it is worth going.

I ran into people with costumes that are fascinating to say the least.
As you can see from the outside of the Charlotte Convention Center with the Heroes Convention displayed across the Entrance of the building. There is a woman walking with a staff. A woman wears a purple cape that is interesting to say the least.
I saw someone where there was a rebel pilot’s uniform from Star Wars Universe. I saw the Ant-Eater creature that was in Episode IV of Star Wars. That is the first film that came out in 1977. Here are the dates for what happened in 2026, and it tells you the one that will happen in 2027.
There is an information booth where you can learn information for the event, and it was there last year as well.
There were several people in the pictures below I saw dressed as Superman which was cool and he reminded me of Henry Cavill Superman.
There was someone dressed as Spiderman which was cool to say the least.
Cyclops was there as well, and I talked to him as well as my brother Mark.
This young woman in the Superman shirt told me that I met that she liked the new Superman that came out in 2025. She told me the reason for that is that she liked how kind he was. That is true. The world could use more kindness and not all this hate that the world is seeing.
I met a man who wore the original movie image for Star Wars Episode IV who grew up the prequels. His shirt is cool, but his first movies were Star Wars prequels. When there is 49 years’ worth of content for Star Wars, this makes sense that people could have been introduced to the original trilogy, the prequels, or the sequel trilogy.
There was a guy who wore a Doctor Doom shirt, and he said that he had been disappointed by the Fantastic Four films. He just told me he would rather read the comics instead.
I met woman named Sarah who was dressed as Miss America. I first thought it was Captain America, but it was America Chavez. She told me that she liked her and I can understand that. I told her that I watched Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. I told her America Chavez was good in that film and that it was the perfect follow-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home. She agreed with me on that, and we had a very nice conversation to say the least.
There was a woman who wore a Loki shirt and said the 2 seasons of Loki were excellent to say the least. She agreed with me when I told her about the Moon Knight series that they were good. Moon Knight only had one season so far on Disney+.
I met a guy named Gary who you can see right here in this picture who told me and my brother Mark about how the comics were written. Gary told us that his favorite Star Wars film is the Empire Strikes Back. That is not unusual as that tends to be a lot of people’s answers. I happen to like all 3 movies of the original trilogy as they all work as they connect the larger story to each other.
Gary told my brother and me that if Jack Kirby did not have an editor would be going crazy. Stan Lee helped him to polish his ideas. Steve Ditko was a guy who drew and created comics. He was recluse according to Gary and wanted to be left alone. He did one comic book convention back in 1964, and that was too much. He said no to that. He answered fan letters. He sounded like me in a nutshell. I sometimes have a hard time dealing with people. I do not hate people; I struggle with talking to people unless I have a role to play or something interesting to talk about. I can do it.
Gary told me what brought him back to the comics was in 1997 when DC comics killed Superman and had a comic series where Bane broke Batman’s back. As you are aware, I talked about how the Dark Knight rises, and you can click on this link to learn more. There was a scene in the film where the Dark Knight rises where it was in the tunnels under Gotham where Bane breaks Batman’s back. Please click this link to watch the video of that happening. Gary also told me that the characters do need to get older. It made sense that Dick Grayson would eventually become Night Wing. You could not expect him to run as Robin forever.
That makes sense. Peter Parker needs to get older. It would be cool to see an older Spider-Man. It is possible to do an older Spider-Man like Peter Parker having a family or dealing with suddenly being older.
I told my brother Mark that Marvel did have a comic where they killed Spider-Man off. Spider-Man was shot while taking a bullet for Captain America. I told him it was the sinister six that killed him and that was true as had to fight them wounded after being shot to protect Captain America. It drained him to say the least. There was a guy dressed as The Rocketeer. If you are wandering, yes, The Rocketeer is a comic. It was done as a movie back in 1991. I loved the film, the idea of this guy stopping nazis was cool. I told him that I watched that film as a kid. He let me take his picture and I appreciated that. You can watch the movie on Disney+.
I met these guys who were dressed as video game characters. These guys are cool to say the least. The Left one is Halo and others I do not know. If you guys know, please let me know in the comments below. Thank you. My brother and I had very interesting conversations with them to say the least.
I met a woman who was dressed as Mysterio. She tells me that she loved Mysterio and that she liked the films Spider-Man: Far from Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home. She told my brother and I that she and her friend were meeting other people and that is cool.
The mystery machine and the ghostbuster car were back. I will have pictures come up for you to look at in this slide presentation. Thank you.
