Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to this episode of the Mattacritic. This is Matthew Hemenway. I am so sorry that there have only been two videos and blog posts recently. I have been stressed about what has been happening with election in my country of the United States of America. I have been working hard to save my country’s democracy and stop an individual who wants to be a dictator from attaining power ever again. In this episode of the Mattacritic, I will be reviewing and analyzing At the Quiet Edge: A Novel by Victoria Helen Stone that you can read on Amazon Kindle or listen to the audio version on Audible. This story deals with Lily Brown who is married to a grifter who stole from people’s life savings. This is no different than a Ponzi scheme. He had people believe that he was helping them get richer, but instead he was stealing their money. The man’s name is Jones Arthur. It was the reverse of what you would expect the name to be. Personally, I would have believed his name to be Arthur Jones. It is no different in the DC universe when you have James Jesse of the Flash TV series that took place in 2014 to 2023. You can look at this image of James Jesse at Google here. It was the reverse of Jesse James, the famous outlaw in the wild west that existed in the 1800’s. You can look at the image of Jesse James on Google here There is a police detective named Mendelson who starts to suspect that Lily Brown is hiding something from him, and he becomes a nuisance to her. Lily Brown’s son Everett becomes suspicious of a storage unit that is in his mother’s facility that she is managing. He found something interesting there. I will explain more in this review and give my rating at the end of this review. As was mentioned before, Lily Brown was married to a man called Jones Arthur. Jones Arthur stole people’s life savings, and they lost everything because of him. She lives in a small town in Kansas and the people remember what her ex-husband Arthur Jones did, and they are mad at her. She has several problems that she is connected to and not of her own making. Her first father divorced her mother and Lilly Brown came back to this small town in Kansas and she finds out that her half brothers and sisters did not even know that she existed. It made them angry to find this out, and they blamed her even though this was not her fault. This makes it difficult for her to say the least. She is also dealing with an annoying police detective named Mendelson and this is making life worse for her to say the least. She wants to lay low and just live her life after all the problems she has had.
Zoey, her best friend asked her to help women and children that have been in abusive relationships and give them a new identity. There are those out there who will say, why not have them go to the police to deal with this. It is not that easy, people who tend to do that tend to be stigmatized and it makes their lives difficult. For example, if a person is sexually assaulted, it is the victim that gets blamed not the perpetrator who committed the offense. It is an unfortunate circumstance, but this is the case. I will give an actual example of a person who was sexually assaulted, in this case I am talking about a person who was raped in real life. The person’s name is E. Jean Carrol who came forward to say that Donald Trump raped her in a department dressing room. E. Jean Carrol won her civil case, and Donald Trump is forced to pay her $83.3 million. YouTube is giving me problems when I play clips in videos lately and I will leave the link to the video in the description below. This video will explain, when a woman or a girl gets sexually assaulted; that mark stays with you. Donald Trump is a man that needs to pay for his crimes. This man deserves to be in prison. The answer to why E. Jean Carrol waited 30 years to do this because of the stigma of sexual assault. She knew that she could not stay silent, and this takes courage to do this. Lily Brown is hesitant to do this, but her best friend Zoey encourages her to do this because there are so many victims of sexual assault out there and there is that stigma of going to the police because of victim blaming. It is blaming the victim for being raped and blaming women and girls from getting pregnant because being raped because they dressed a certain way. It is insane at best. No one deserves this to happen to them.
This will lead to Lily Brown helping a woman named Amber and her child that was being abused by her husband who has a powerful position. I will not reveal who it is as I want you to find out in the book, but I felt it necessary for you to read or listen to the book so you can learn about this. Lily Brown will be in the crosshairs of this man.
Everett Brown will meet Josephine, and she will be an immense help in the mystery of the storage container that Everett Brown finds that has photographs and clippings of girls that have been missing for decades. These girls were not just taken by this individual they were killed by this individual. Lily Brown meets a person who is a newspaper reporter who has these photographs and clippings of these girls. It is believed that this individual is the killer.
Both Everett Brown and Josephine will become good friends. They are not in a romantic relationship. The narrator does an excellent job of having Josephine sound like a girl who is 12 years old. She does an excellent job of making Everett Brown sound like a 12-year-old boy. Josephine’s Dad is a firefighter and Everett Brown tells Josephine, “You are lucky you have a dad that is in your life.” That is a powerful thing to have. You want to have a dad that is there and who is not a criminal. Jones Arthur is a grifter and Everett Brown wonders if his father cares about him or not.
Both Everett Brown and Josephine find out information about the women that were missing. According to their research; they find out that they were taken and killed. This case was not solved by the police. This is a terrible thing to have happened if you are the police. You do not want this to be hanging over your head. This will be the case, and the police will have to figure out how to deal with a backlash. The reporter that Everett Brown’s mother Lilly Brown is dating is investigating these deaths and their connection to this killer. The killer will not be revealed here as for you to listen or read the book. I will leave a link to the book at the bottom of this video. If you are watching this video on YouTube, it will be there. It will also be in my blog post. If this video is on TikTok, unfortunately TikTok does not do that.
The story will have twists and turns. Lily Brown will be deceived by a man who says he is a good guy, but really is a bad guy. Who this guy is will surprise you. You just must be ready to look for it.
As not to be revealed, nothing more will be revealed here. It does bring the reader or the listener to the climax of this story.
I will give you, my rating. I give At the Quiet Edge by Victoria Helen Stone, a 10 out of 10. This book is a remarkable story, and it keeps the reader or the listener on their toes. This story is fun, but it tells an important story of how a grifter can destroy people’s lives and how hard it is for sexual assault victims to come forward. The reason, I use E. Jean Carroll as an example is that she sued a man who is rich and powerful, but it was not just for her, she was standing up to men how have taken advantage of women for decades. People like Donald Trump have used their wealth and power to escape from accountability. It comes in all shapes and sizes. It can be police officers that use their power to hurt people. For example, when Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd by placing his knee on his neck. It is unfortunate this happens, but it does. Some police officers will use their power to intimidate ordinary citizens to hurt them so they can get what they want. This story will show that. This is a must read or listen. You want to get your copy of this book today, you either want to read or listen to it as soon as possible.

My recommendation for Lt. Governor for NC is Rachel Hunt. Rachel Hunt is related to Jim Hunt who served as Governor for NC for 4 terms. He was an incredible Governor who believed in Public Education and believed in working across the aisle to get things done. That would not be considered a good thing. I do not care; I want people to get things done and not worry about that. Hal Weatherman, her opponent is just another MAGA nut who wants to do what they want of him. He worked for Madison Cawthorn who believed Hitler was wonderful. He is Mark Robinson’s disciple. I do not want another Mark Robinson. Please vote for Rachel Hunt who will work for the state of NC and not her party. Rachel Hunt believes in protecting reproductive freedoms such as abortion and IVF. I am tired of this big brother nonsense from MAGA. They have no right to tell me what books to read. I want to make that choice. It is time to turn the page from that. Thank you.
